The Plan of Salvation in the Days of Creation

First Day: Light appears. The light is divided from the darkness.
We are introduced to the Savior. The darkness (sin) is already there in our lives. God comes into our lives and brings light.

Second Day: "Divide the waters from the waters."
In the Bible, water often represents people. At this point we are set apart through baptism.

Third Day: God commands the earth to "bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit..."
Likewise, when we have been called out of darkness and begin to follow the Lord, fruit is brought forth in our lives.

Fourth Day: "And God made two great lights; the greater to rule the day, and the lesser to rule the night."
The greater light, which is the Bible; and the lesser light, which is the Spirit of Prophecy, are both essential.

Fifth Day: "And God said, let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life..." and commands them to be fruitful and multiply.
Once we have received light, and been baptized, we are called to be fishers of men.

Sixth Day: Man is created in God's image and given dominion over the beasts of the earth.
As we follow Christ and become more like Him, we are given dominion over the beasts of self and sin.

Seventh Day: God rests from His work and blesses and sanctifies the seventh day.
Our induction into heaven brings the end of our work here on earth and, consequently, brings our rest.

I'd love to hear other's insights regarding this. So, feel free to leave your comments below!

  1. I like it:
one question, in what way is the SOP a "lesser light?" on the Fourth Day:...."The greater light, which is the Bible; and the lesser light, which is the Spirit of Prophesy, are both essential."
Perhaps the lesser light could be nature?

  2. Well, wouldn't you say the Bible is supreme? You wouldn't take the SOP and make it first and discard the Bible. Yet, I don't quite see them as equal; though, they are both inspired. Yeah, I thought of nature as being the lesser light, too. Thanks for the input! I'm not saying that what I put in there is the only way it can be. It's just what I came up with while building off of someone else's observation.

  3. Those are really neat thoughts Em! I hadn't really thought of creation from that aspect before. I'll have to think more on that… Missing you!

  4. @ Emily,
"...Bible is supreme" Yes, very true, I see every Word of God as being of equal value and importance-agreeing in quantity, size, quality, degree, value, etc.

  5. Also, Ellen White herself commented that the SOP is a lesser light. I don't remember the exact reference, but I do know she said it. Also, we could look at the stars as lesser lights..maybe they could represent nature, teachers, preachers, etc.

Thanks for sharing. It's definately worth thinking about.

  6. Thanks Sarah:
I think I see how that is now... SOP is to lead to the Bible,
    here is the quote
    "Ellen White Calls Her Writings a Lesser Light.--Little heed is given to the Bible, and the Lord has given a lesser light to lead men and women to the greater light".--The Review and Herald, Jan. 20, 1903. (Quoted in Colporteur Ministry, p. 125.) {3SM 30.4}

  7. The lesser light (Moon) reflects the greater light (Sun). Even so, the SOP is the/a lesser light that reflects the Bible.
